The Negative Effects of the Internet on Children
Internet and Children
The widespread use of the internet has brought a new problem to the forefront. Unfortunately, the virtual world is not that safe for children. Therefore, parents should protect their children from the negative effects of the internet and ensure their access to the internet is controlled. While it is a powerful communication tool, the internet also harbors many negative aspects and poses certain dangers to children. Of course, the internet should not be completely banned. However, its use by children for purposes other than intended should be prevented, and its benefits and harms should be clearly explained to children.
The Negative Effects of the Internet on Children
The primary negative effect of the internet on children is addiction. Some children spend a large part of their day on social networking sites on the internet. False friendships formed on social networking sites are a significant risk for children. Therefore, parents should know their children's circle of friends and, if possible, monitor their social media accounts. Content on the internet that includes violence and sexuality is also a factor that negatively affects children. Children making purchases online, visiting sites that encourage alcohol and drug use, and communicating with strangers are among the negative effects of the internet on children.
